Biographical note: Doctor in Biology from the University of Barcelona. He has been a researcher at Harvard University, Los Alamos National Laboratory (New Mexico) and the Municipal Institute for Medical Research. He is currently a researcher at the Center for Genomic Regulation, where he heads the Bioinformatics and Genomics program, and a Professor at Pompeu Fabra University. His field of research is computational biology, and his research focuses specifically on the discovery and characterization of patterns in the genome sequence that confer biological functionality, and on the study of how changes in this sequence affect functionality and ultimately impact the phenotype of organisms. He is a member of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans and the Academy of Sciences of the Institute of Bologna. He has been awarded the Ciutat de Barcelona Awards in 2003 and 2012, and the Catalonian National Research Award in 2017.
