Biographical note: Chemical Engineer (IQS, 1974) and PhD in Chemistry from University of Barcelona (UB, 1979). After a post-doctoral stay at CSIC (1979-1980), he joined UB in 1980 as an Associate Professor, being promoted to Professor of Organic Chemistry in 1991. He has He was the founding Director of the Chemical Research Institute of Catalonia (ICIQ, 2000-2020) and Group Leader at ICIQ until March 2022. He is currently Ad Honorem Professor at URV. His research focuses on batch and continuous flow enantioselective catalysis using immobilized species, and on the discovery of new light-mediated reactions (335 publications, h-index = 58). He has supervised 57 doctoral theses and 60 post-doc associates. In 2000 he received the Distinction for University Research from Generalitat de Catalunya and, in 2005, the Narcís Monturiol Medal for scientific and technological merit from the same institution. In 2019 he received the RSEQ Medal. In 2021 he was elected a member of the Academia Europaea. He is a member of the RSEQ (Vice President in 2006-2011), SCQ (President in 1986-1987) and a Fellow of the RSC.
