Historical Passages
The Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona was established on January 18, 1764 as a private literary society under the name Conferencia Physycomatemática Experimental and, by virtue of the “Royal Cédula” of December 17, 1765, it became Real Conferencia Physics as the King’s public consultative body for the affairs of the Principality of Catalonia. As a result of the “Real Cédula” of October 14, 1770, it would change its title to the Real Academia de Ciencias Naturales y Artes de Barcelona until the “Real Orden” of December 7, 1887 determined the current name.
