Excm. Sr. Jordi ALERCH i VIÉ
Biographical note:: Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona. He is currently Full Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Director of the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona (Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence). He did stays as a researcher at Georgetown University (1988-1989), University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) (1994-1995) and the Karolinska Institute (1997). His main line of research is the study of the pathophysiology and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. He has published more than 185 articles and supervised more than 20 doctoral theses. He is Director of research groups at the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) and the Center for Biomedical Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases (CIBERNED). He was Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Transfer (2008-2016) and Acting Rector (2016) of the University of Barcelona. He was president of the Spanish Society of Neurosciences (2015-2017). He is co-founder of the company Cytes Biotechnologies (2015-). He has received the Distinction for the Promotion of University Research from the Generalitat of Catalonia.
